Black Sea, Turkey — October 6, 2026
A worker identified as Ali Mehmet has reportedly died following a fall from height while carrying out work on the Göktepe-3 offshore project in the deep waters of Turkey’s Black Sea on the night of October 5, 2026 .
According to the information available, Mehmet was involved in carrying out what were understood to be final activities on the project, with the current contract reportedly approaching its scheduled completion in the coming days. He was carrying out work on the offshore installation when he fell from a height. Following the incident, Mehmet was reportedly found unconscious and emergency medical assistance was sought. Despite efforts to respond to the emergency, he later lost his life.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are now the subject of an investigation. Particular attention is expected to be given to the activities being performed at the time of the incident, the working conditions, fall-protection measures, safety supervision, equipment and procedures applicable to work at height.
The fact that the project was reportedly nearing the end of its contract is also part of the broader timeline surrounding the incident. However, there is currently no basis to conclude that the approaching contract completion was connected to the accident, unless investigators establish such a link.
The project's manager is reportedly being investigated as part of the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mehmet's death. At this stage, however, the investigation remains ongoing, and no conclusion should be drawn about individual responsibility.
Further details are expected as the investigation continues and authorities establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
